Introducing the Jupiter Audio Subterfuge A

“Why have two versions of the same subwoofer?” would be the first question I’d ask. It’s simple: the Subterfuge, from the get-go, was designed to do double duty for both music and movies. The Subterfuge A (the “A” is for Audiophile) has an upgraded amplifier section designed mainly for use in music applications to reinforce the bottom end of speakers that need a little help in the bottom few octaves. I’m not going to lie: I fully expected this subwoofer to be as close to perfect as one can get in a powered subwoofer--clean, transparent, solid, with an excellent crossover section to offer excellent integration with the main speakers. The quandary with a powered subwoofer has always been that it’s anything but seamless when mating with another pair of speakers. It’s too easy to tell where the mains leave off and the sub begins. Make that way too easy. So, I already had the subwoofer that I felt was musical as all get-out, now the trick was to mate it with an amplifier that will allow it to excel in applications of bass reinforcement in music listening applications. And, big surprise, the amp is again from the Netherlands based company Hypex. This is an extremely clean amp with a very high damping factor, allowing for bass that is even more controlled than the standard Subterfuge. And, amazingly, it also incorporates a full 24 dB/octave electronic crossover for both the low pass section for the subwoofer, and the high pass section for the main speakers, with separate crossover frequency adjustments for each.

As the icing on the cake, I custom order these amp sections with both RCA and XLR connections for both inputs and outputs. Couple the Subterfuge A with a pair of Active Europas and you have something bordering on the ubelievable: a fully active 3 piece system with sound quality to rival almost any speaker on the market for about $3600. You know how they say if something sounds to good to be true it probably is? Not this time.

Please note: the amp sections for the Subterfuge A are custom ordered from the Netherlands, and can take some time to get. Please allow up to 8 weeks for delivery. It’s worth the wait. Also note that a more firm delivery time will be quoted at the time of order.
